The Testing

The Testing - Joelle Charbonneau *3.5*

I have a love-hate relationship with this book..

When I first started this book, for some reason I just could not get into it. I felt it was predictable and pretty uneventful. I also saw many similarities to The Hunger Games, and I basically brushed it off as just another dystopian.

It continued on this path throughout the middle, and I found myself thinking "duh, I knew that was going to happen!", although it described a unique world, major plot developments were foreseeable. Also, the story felt a little one-dimensional.

I really liked the main character Cia, but I felt her character didn't start to develop until the end.

When I reached the last 40 pages, everything just took a turn around!! I absolutely loved the ending!! All the Hunger Games similarities vanished, and I finally felt some real excitement! The ending really took my breath away and now I desperately want the sequel.

This book is worth reading just for the ending. It had a lot of action and if you really like dystopian, then it may be the book for you. There is a sort of romance that I semi-enjoyed, but I wasn't super into it. Overall, this story creates an interesting world and situation, and to see how it all comes together in the end makes for an entertaining read that will mess with your mind.
