This Song Will Save Your Life

This Song Will Save Your Life - Leila Sales I received an advanced e-book copy of this through NetGalley.

This is a really inspiring story of a girl just trying to figure out what life is all about at the age of 16. She experiences a remarkable journey of self-discovery and attempts to figure out what it means to be herself.

There are really deep ideas and issues discussed in this story, but it wasn't too much. The bleakness of Elise's situation was not too overwhelming. There was just enough to give the story depth and for it to leave an impact on the reader. I really liked the main character, Elise, because she was very real and had very real emotions. I think many young teens can relate to this story and it sends a positive message. I love books that have a meaning and can really give insight into an issue or situation, and this story definitely does that! Some of it was a little far-fetched, but I think it's a unique story and definitely keeps your interest.

There is this contrast between Elise's secret life and her real life that I loved, it kept me intrigued the whole time. I also loved all of the music references and the song quotes at the beginning of each chapter. This is a great contemporary for music lovers!

There is a timeless relevance to the overarching story and I believe almost everyone can relate to it in one way or another. The modern twist of the underground club gave this story its edge. Some of the story is sad and aggravating, but it all has a purpose and I liked how it ended.

Great contemporary that leaves a lasting effect.
