I was pleasantly surprised at the direction Lisa McMann took in Gone, the final book in the Wake series. The other two books focused more on the action and suspense aspects, as where this one focused more on character development and some emotional issues. The main character Janie has to decide between two ways to live her life, but the catch is, both ways will end up causing her pain. So, no matter what she will not have a happy ending. This is a unique situation that I have not seen in many books. The only thing that I did not like was the lack of Cabel's character. I wish that he and Janie's love story played a bigger role. I really loved the emotional depth and the unpredictable plot of this book, and I think it was a satisfying conclusion to the series!
